Costumes of Men
- Pagdi (Turban/पगड़ी): Worn on the head by men, it is also known by names like Saafa, Potiya, Baag, and Pecha . Turbans are often decorated with items such as Sirpech, Turra, and Kalangi . The 'Chhabdar' was the person who tied the turban for the Mewar Maharaja . Different styles are worn for various occasions: Madil Pagdi for Dussehra, Mothade ki Pagdi for marriages, and turbans with leaf and flower imprints for Holi . Famous styles include Amar-Shahi, Vijay-Shahi, Uday-Shahi, Atpati, Shiv-Shahi, and Khanjar-Shahi . The Khidkiya-Paag of Jodhpur is particularly well-known .
- Angrakhi (अंगरखी): A garment worn by men on the upper part of their body . It is also known by other names such as Bugtari, Tansukh, Dutai, and Mirzai .
- Achkan (अचकन): A knee-length jacket, which is generally worn by men of the Muslim community .
- Dhoti: A traditional garment worn by men, tied below the waist .
- Choga: A long-sleeved cloak with a long skirt, worn by men over the Angrakhi .
- Breeches: Short trousers that are tied below the knee, primarily used for horse riding or for ceremonial purposes .
- Kamarband: A long belt worn around the waist, which was generally used to hold a sword .
- Pachewada (पछेवड़ा): A thick, blanket-like cloth used during the winter season .
- Ghoogi (घुघी): A woolen cloth specifically designed to provide protection from rain and cold .
- Atamsukh (आतमसुख): A garment worn in severe cold, similar in style to a Kashmiri Paharan .
- Malaygiri: A brown-colored, scented cloth .
Costumes of Women
- Odhni/Lugdi/Damni (ओढ़नी): A long veil worn by women to cover their head, face, and body . Different types are worn on various occasions:
- Pomcha (पोमचा): Comes in two colors. A yellow Pomcha is gifted by parents to their daughter upon the birth of a boy, while a pink one is for the birth of a girl .
- Lahariya (लहररया): Worn on the Teej festival . There are several types, including the literary 'Pratapsahi' Lahariya, 'Rajshahi Lahariya' (with bright pink lines), and 'Samudra Lahariya' (with wide stripes) . A 'Pacharanga Lahariya' (five-colored) is worn on auspicious occasions . The Lahariya worn on Holi is called 'Faganiya' .
- Lugda (लूगड़ा): Typically worn by married women .
- Damni (दामड़ी): A red-colored Odhni with embroidery, particularly seen in the Marwar region .
- Kurti-Kanchli: The Kanchli is an inner-wear garment with sleeves covering the upper body . The Kurti is a sleeveless blouse worn over the Kanchli, covering the body from the neck to the waist .
- Tilka (चतलका): A garment worn by Muslim women .
- Jhimmi: A costume provided by the maternal uncle (Mama) .
- Damdi (दामड़ी): A long, red-colored veil with threaded embroidery worn by women in the Marwar area .
Rajasthan has a rich history of various sarees and fabrics. Names of sarees included Chola, Nichola, Pat, Dukul, Ansuk, and Vasan, among others . Fabrics like Jamadani, Kimkhab, Tasar, Chhint, Velvet, and Malmal were also prevalent .
Costumes of Tribes
- Angrakha: Worn by men above the waist, it features white thread embroidery with geometric figures, flowers, and leaves .
- Angocha (अंगोछा): Worn on the head with imprinted borders .
- Katki (कटकी): An Odhni worn on the head by unmarried tribal girls .
- Nandna (नांदना): Considered the oldest dress among tribal women. It is a traditional garment with blue dye and caterpillar-type quadrangles .
- Rensai (रेनसाई): A saree worn by tribal women .
- Jamsai Saree (जामसाईसाड़ी): A saree worn by tribal women on the occasion of marriage .
- Kachavu (कछावू): A knee-length skirt worn by tribal women .
- Fudadi (फुदडी): A cloth for tribal women featuring starry decorations .
- Keri-Bhant Ki Odhni (केरीभांतकीओढ़नी): An Odhni with designs of small unripe mangoes (Keri) on the borders and small circular dots on the main part .
- Jwar-Bhant Ki Odhni (ज्वारभांतकीओढ़नी): Features red flowers and small red circles imprinted on both sides .
- Tara-Bhant Ki Odhni (ताराभांतकीओढ़नी): A red Odhni with a brown background, featuring hexagonal star-like designs on its borders .
- Lehar Bhant Ki Odhni (लहरभांतकीओढ़नी): Another type of Odhni with wave-like patterns .
