Is Your Child Ready for the Science Stream? A Reality Check for Parents

Every day, I create career guidance videos for college students, but today's message is special. It is specifically for parents whose children are currently in Class 10th or 12th and are planning to take admission in the Science stream.

I know that deep down, you are worried about your child's future. You are investing your hard-earned money and your time because you want your child to have a secure and stable future. But if there is any confusion in your mind, please ask the right questions today to avoid big mistakes tomorrow.

The Ground Reality: Where We Are Going Wrong

The biggest mistake happening in our education system today is that we are making decisions based on brands, college names, and crowd mentality rather than the child's actual ability.

As soon as a child gets good marks in 10th grade, the race begins automatically: the same stream, the same coaching centers, and the same rat race. However, the reality is stark:

  • Many children who score 75% to 80% in 10th grade lose their confidence by the time they reach 12th grade.
  • Their marks start dropping, stress levels rise, and their direction becomes completely unclear.
"Marks only tell you about performance; they do not tell you about capability."

Marks cannot tell you which field a child is naturally built for. They don't reveal which subject the child can sustain interest in for the long term or if they can handle future pressure.

The Role of Parents: Beyond Just Paying Fees

Taking tuition is not wrong, but sending a child to tuition everywhere without proper assessment is not the solution. The role of a parent isn't just to pay the fees; it is to ensure that the child is actually understanding the concepts, not just completing the syllabus.

Today, lakhs of rupees are being spent on education, but very little is spent on Career Clarity. Consequently, when exams approach, fear, regret, and panic set in.

The Truth About Success

The hard truth is that not every child is built to be a doctor or an engineer. Just because an option is expensive doesn't mean it is the right option.

What is most important today is Right Direction at the Right Time. If you understand your child's strengths, interests, and capacity at the beginning, they will stay motivated. Otherwise, they will remain confused and burnt out.
