Fairs, Famous Temples, Urs & Mosques of Rajasthan

Hindu fairs and festivals in Rajasthan are celebrated according to the Vikrami calendar, which is a lunar-based system . To align with the solar calendar, an additional month, known as 'Adhik Mas', is added every third year .

Magh Beneshwar Fair Nevatpura, Dungarpur Known as the "Kumbha of Adivasis" or "Pushkar of Vagar," it is held on Magh Purnima at the confluence of the Mahi, Som, and Jakham rivers. A broken Shivling is worshipped here .
Falgun Khatushyamji Fair Sikar A significant religious gathering .

Famous Temples of Rajasthan

  • Kiradu Temples (Barmer): Located in Hathma village, these Nagar-style temples are known as the "Khajuraho of Rajasthan." The ancient name of the site was Kirat Koop .
  • Ranakpur Jain Temples (Pali): Built by Dharanakshah with architect Depak, these temples are famous for their 1444 intricately carved pillars. A Sun Temple is also located here .
  • Delwara Jain Temples (Sirohi): A complex of temples in Abu, including the Vimalshahi and Lunavasahi (Devrani-Jaithani) temples, built by ministers of the Chalukya kings .
  • Brahma Temple (Pushkar): Built by Gokul Chand Pareek, it is a major pilgrimage site. A temple for Savitri Mata is also located here. Another Brahma temple is in Asotra, Barmer .
  • Ekling-Nathji Temple (Udaipur): Built by Bappa Rawal in the 8th century, this temple is dedicated to the presiding deity of the Mewar royal family .
  • Harshad Mata Temple (Dausa): Located in Abhaneri, this temple was initially a Vishnu temple built during the Pratihar regime. The famous Chand Baori (stepwell) is in front of it .
  • Sheetaleshwar Mahadev Temple (Jhalawar): An early temple dated to 689 AD .
  • Bhand devra Temple (Baran): Located in Atru, it is known as the "Khajuraho of Hadauti" .
  • Sawariya ji's Temple (Chittorgarh): Situated in Mandapiya, it is popularly known as the "Temple of Thieves" .
  • Laxman Temple (Bharatpur): A prominent temple in Bharatpur .
  • Temple of Ravana (Jodhpur): Located in Mandore, Ravana is worshipped here by Shrimali Brahmins .
  • Kalyan ji's Fair (Tonk): This temple in Diggi is known for its unique structure, which is said to be as deep in the ground as it is high above it .

Urs Location Details
Khwaja Sahib's Urs Ajmer Celebrated in memory of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti from the 1st to the 6th of Rajjab. The Gauri family of Bhilwara initiates the Urs by carrying the flag .
Galiyakot Urs Galiyakot, Dungarpur A major festival for Dawoodi Bohra Muslims, held at the Dargah of Saiyad Fakhruddin on the 27th day of Muharram .
Urs of Taarkeen Nagaur Held in memory of Shaikh Hamiduddin Nagauri .
Pir of Narhad Urs Narhad, Jhunjhunu In memory of Hazrat Shakkar Baba, also known as 'Dhani of Bangar'. This Urs is uniquely held on Krishna Janmashtami .
Chotila Pir Duleshah Urs Pali Held near the Bandi river .
Malik Shah's Urs Jalore A significant Urs held in Jalore .

Major Mosques (Masjids) of Rajasthan

  • Dargah of Mitheshah: Located within the Gagraun Fort in Jhalawar .
  • Gulab Khan's Tomb: A historic tomb in Jodhpur .
  • Ekminar Masjid: A unique mosque in Jodhpur .
  • Jama Masjid (Shahbad, Baran): A major mosque in the Hadoti region .
  • Mosque of Alauddin Khilji: Located in Jalore .
  • Nalisar Mosque: Situated in Sambhar .
  • Dargah of Diwanshah (Chittor): Located in Kapasan, it hosts the second-biggest Urs in Rajasthan after Ajmer .
